Pied-billed Grebe on 11:30am Walk: Sept 10, 2022

While most of the other grebes favour open water, this little fellow seems to prefer weed-choked ponds and occurs in such places throughout most of North and South America. “Pied” means having two or more different colors.

The 11:30am group had a good look at one of these small (13 inches) grebes today at Col. Sam Smith Park.

NATURE POETRY

My heart is clean and white as silk; it has already achieved Peace;
It is smooth as the placid river.
I love to stay here, curled up on the rocks,
Dropping my fish-line forever.                        – Wang Wei (699–759)
