Catbird on 8am Walk: September 10, 2022

Because many spring and summer visitors like swallows, orioles, kingbirds and grosbeaks are now far south of us, it was nice to hear a loud meow from the shrubbery at Col. Sam Smith Park. This cat-like call is given by the Gray Catbird. Catbirds are usually around well into October and occasionally a few even spend the winter with us. The 8am group had a good look (and listen) to one today.

SONG LYRICS

Touch me
It’s so easy to leave me
All alone with my memory
Of my days in the sun
If you touch me
You’ll understand what happiness is
Look a new day has begun. from Cats (Broadway show)
