I received this note and fine photos from Heather Pantrey:
Hi Miles. I had a great opportunity to see the Snowy Owl at Col. Sam this afternoon. I welcomed the opportunity to take the photos although it was upsetting that it flew towards me because a man walked across the ice to the dock and flushed it.

Our group also saw the owl this morning but not quite as close:

NATURE POETRY
O Winter . . .
He hears me not, but o’er the yawning deep
Rides heavy; his storms are unchain’d, sheathed
In ribbed steel; I dare not lift mine eyes;
For he hath rear’d his scepter o’er the world. – William Blake (1757–1827)
Miles Hearn
We went out to Col. Sam Smith last week to see if we could see the owl and were lucky enough to see him. A little while later, a man walked across the ice with his dog and flushed him that time as well.
Incredible Snowy Owl pictures, Heather!
those pics are beautiful!!!! what a majestic bird……..how lucky are we to see such beauty.
Thanks for sharing…..
