Hawk and Oriole Stand-off at High Park: June 2020

Hiking deep in the woods makes it very difficult to photograph birds so my last several posts have had no bird photos.

On this day, I decided to have a look at High Park where I knew that some bird photos could be taken.

Within a few moments, my attention was drawn to a repeatedly whistling oriole.

Something must be up, and that something was sitting just below the offended oriole.

The oriole was hopping from branch to branch.

In all likelihood, the red-tail had discovered the oriole’s nest and was waiting for the right opportunity to steal a chick and fly off. The oriole was desperate to prevent this. Eventually, the hawk gave up .. perhaps just to stop the oriole from constant squawking.

So who should I root for, in this one? We all gotta eat! But I guess–well, you can guess I was relieved that the Oriole won!
    Great pictures! Thanks, Miles!

Miles, you take amazing photos. You could frame them and sell some of them. Another job for you in retirement.
