Years ago, some intellectuals sat down and came up with collective names for various birds.
Murder of crows
Murmuration of starlings
Kettle of hawks
Incontinence of yellowlegs
I was unable to find what a group of pipits is called so I have given them a name – a Pipitude.
Both morning and afternoon groups saw a pipitude today.

“Incontinence of Yellowlegs”? Seriously? Is that why their legs are yellow? What fun those intellectuals were having! I guess it IS fun to have these specific ways of referring to flocks of birds. Your suggestion will do just fine! Or–how about–a Plethora of Pipits? A Plentitude of Pipits? A Possibility (Impossibility?) of Pipits? A Piping Pimpletude of Pipits?–so many possibilities. We should have a naming contest!
Or Perturbation of Pipits? Preconception of Pipits? Preeminence of Pipits? Protuberance of…Oh Lisa, Stop. Anyone else?
Penultimate Prominence of Pipits–Shut up, Lisa. Stop yourself! You triggered my love of playing with language…unfortunately…
