Rough-winged Swallows and 4 Milkweeds: July 2022

Like Bank Swallows, Rough-winged Swallows have brown backs. Rough-wings however, have a “dirty chin” rather than the pure white throat of the Bank Swallow.

I spent an hour or so this morning by the pond at Marie Curtis Park hoping to find the Green Heron which is sometimes here:

No luck with the heron, but I did find Rough-winged Swallows some of whom had chicks anxious to be fed:

NATURE POETRY

Then flash the wings returning Summer calls
Through the deep arches of her forest halls,—
The bluebird, breathing from his azure plumes
The fragrance borrowed where the myrtle blooms.   – Oliver Wendell Holmes (1841–1935)

Very beautiful images, great resolution, I particularly loved the side-way shot of the female red-winged black bird … surreal… Thank you Miles for always sharing 🙂
