In my opinion, Col. Sam Smith Park is the best place in our area to see a good variety of bird species at any time of the year.
That’s where I headed early this morning and here are some of the birds that I found:
Northern Flicker:

Eastern Phoebe:

Red-necked Grebe:

Horned Grebe:

Other birds:

NATURE POETRY
I watched the dawn come,
Watched the spring dawn come.
And the red sun shouldered his way up
Through the grey, through the blue,
Through the lilac mists. – Angelina Weld Grimké (1880–1958)

wonderful variety of beautiful birds, gives us hope that SPRING is on the way.
thank you,Miles
Several years ago a bird struck a downstairs window. Sadly it was dead. I couldn’t identify it but I remember it had a red head, and the tawny coloured feathers with dark markings. When I saw the photo of the northern flicker it brought back that memory. We live several kilometres directly north of Col. Sam Smith Park.
