68 Singing Song Sparrows

I love the energy that Song Sparrows put into their singing. A big breath is taken, the head is thrown back and the song is thrust skyward.

The Song Sparrow song is not as easily learned as that of a Cardinal. It is difficult to paraphrase; usually staring with three sweet emphatic notes, followed by a jumble of up and down phrases. Some describe it as “Maid, Maid, Maid. Put the kettle on.”

The best way to learn is to find a You Tube video and listen many times.

Those photos are so clear. I would love to paint them but it seems silly as they are so perfect in themselves.
The video of the songs is excellent for recognition of song.

    So enjoy your posts, Miles

Thank you for creating such comprehensive posts! Learning through repetition of image and sound is a wonderful method, plus you’ve provided – over the last year specifically – a valuable archive of the natural world, with historical segues.
