Wild Turkey at Vivian, Ontario: Last Week of April, 2020

There is not much in Vivian. Here is the view from the main intersection:

There is a Baptist Church,

a boarded up home:

and this abandoned building which, perhaps, is on old hotel:

In the corn field, right across the highway, I spotted a Wild Turkey:

The Turkey spotted me at the same moment and decided to climb up to the highway and cross:

The bird stood still and waited as a truck approached and passed:

Turkeys don’t fly too often but this one decided to make haste:

Once on the other side, she calmly walked out of sight:

Next I drove on a few side roads

until I came upon this pond.

During a short walk I photographed these:

Yellow Birch (Betula pensylvanica)
Cat-tail (last season)
Cat-tails (this season)
Moss
Virginia Waterleaf (Hydrophyllum virginianum)
White Pine (Pinus strobus)
Ground-hemlock (Taxus canadensis)
Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara)

Nearby were these birds:

My next stop was the York Regional Forest which has been reopened:

Spring has progressed very little since I was here two and a half weeks ago:

Poison Ivy (Toxicodendron rydbergii)
Shining Clubmoss
Moss
Norway Spruce (Picea abies)
Black Cherry (Prunus serotina)
Norway Spruce cones
Red Pine cone (Pinus resinosa)

Red Elderberry (Sambucus racemosum)
Bitternut Hickory (Carya cordiformis)
Trout-lily (Erythronium americanum)
Beaked Hazel (Corylus cornuta)

I did have the pleasure of watching this Red Squirrel eat lunch:

NATURE POETRY

Again the blackbirds sing; the streams
Wake, laughing, from their winter dreams,
And tremble in the April showers
The tassels of the maple flowers.     – John Greenleaf Whittier (1807–92)

      Hi Miles
The building on the corner that you showed 3 sides of was the childhood home of a friend of our yours and included a store in the front where the extra glass is. They also ran a Christmas tree farm out the back.

I was in suspense for that turkey to make it to the other side.
    Cute squirrel.
    Great pictures.
I just went through 2 posts and I feel I went for a drive and a hike!
    Thank you!
