Polar bears are about 7 feet long and between 3 and 4 feet high.

They weigh between 600 and 110 pounds; sometimes more.

They live on ice floes, barren rocky shores and islands.

They are solitary except during mating season in midsummer or when mother is with cubs.

They feed mostly on seals and fish but will eat stranded whales or other dead animals on shore.

They spend the winter in dens in deep snowbanks and emerge in March.

Normally 2 young are born in the winter den and stay with the mother until the following winter.
