Little Rouge Creek

I am very familiar with a section of the Little Rouge Creek located just north of the zoo.

For a few years, I ran lichen, frog, woodcock, screech owl, plant and other surveys here for the Toronto Region Conservation Authority  and visited the area in all seasons.

There is evidence of beaver here:

Pileated Woodpecker:

and evidence of humans:

American Beech (Fagus grandifolia)

On the December morning I visited, there were no birds except for some Canada Geese high in the sky:

Some other plants:

Thimbleweed (Anemone virginiana)

Canada Plum (Prunus nigra)

The buds of Canada Plum seem to double as thorns!
