A few times each year, I drive to the Caledon East area to buy 50 pound bags of sunflower chip seeds for my backyard bird feeder.
The Davis Family Farm here has 45 acres of sunflowers which, I am told, contain more than ten million sunflowers.
This is a truly remarkable display. All of the flowers face the east to get the morning sunshine.
There are acres of pumpkins as well:
During the 3 KM walk through the “Field of Dreams”, there are many sights including several Indigo Buntings.
The gentleman responsible for planting told me that, starting about October 1st when the sunflower seeds are everywhere, hordes of Crows, Red-winged Blackbirds, Turkeys and Doves descend on the area and take about 25% of the crop.

NATURE POETRY
Ah Sun-flower! weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the Sun:
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the travellers journey is done.
Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale Virgin shrouded in snow:
Arise from their graves and aspire,
Where my Sun-flower wishes to go. – William Blake
