Pileated Woodpeckers are big birds with a male, like the one we saw today, measuring close to 20 inches in length.
When feeding they sound like someone shingling a roof and slivers about the size of a finger come away with each peck. Pileated Woodpeckers love ants and the bird we observed was likely searching for them near the ground.
