I see Red-winged Blackbirds occasionally in winter especially near birdfeeders.
A few have been appearing this week but never more than one or two.
Last year, I saw my first group of Redwings on March 5.
This morning, in rainy High Park, we heard and saw at least a dozen. To some, this signifies the beginning of the spring migration.
The males always arrive first. In a few weeks, we will start to see the females (who look very different).

Hi Miles,
Last spring Lilly & Billy built their nest on this photographer’s tiny Manhattan balcony. He recorded it all, from twigs to fledglings – for posterity and for his own pandemic entertainment. 😊 And they’re back this year!
