Many parents and grandparents take young children to see and feed the birds at Lynde Shores near Whitby.
With various short trails it is possible to see a good variety of wildlife.
These creatures, accustomed as they are to being fed, allow a very close approach – perfect for photography.
I know of no other spot where the Red-bellied Woodpecker comes so near.

We saw shoveller ducks circling today at Grenadier pond, we were puzzled until we passed a sign saying they do this to stir up food. There were quite a few!
