As I drive out of the city I seem to see a Red-tailed Hawk perched conspicuously on a tree or light standard every few kilometres. Occasionally while walking, I have seen one hovering over a field, then folding its wings to make a spectacular plunge upon some luckless mouse.
Over the last few years I have photographed many as you will see here. (Immature birds have dark gray not red tails that may or may not show banding).
HAWK QUOTE
Look! as the full-fed hound or gorged hawk,
Unapt for tender smell or speedy flight,
Make slow pursuit, or altogether balk
The prey wherein by nature they delight. (The Rape of Lucrece, Shakespeare)
Miles Hearn
