For 34 years Birds Canada has organized a “FeederWatch” community which has recorded the birds at feeders from November through April throughout Canada.

#1 on last winter’s Ontario list is the Black-capped Chickadee:

Black-capped Chickadee
Black-capped Chickadee
Black-capped Chickadee
Black-capped Chickadee in Sea-buckthorn: Humber Bay

The Black-capped Chickadee is common on winter lists in all regions of Canada.

it is #1 on the Atlantic Canada list, #1 on the Quebec list, #1 on the Prairies list and #6 on the British Columbia list.

During this dark, lightly raining morning at Col Danforth Park, one Chickadee was the only bird I encountered.

NATURE POETRY

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
