Ghost Town Of Ball’s Falls: August 2020

Ball’s Falls was founded in 1809 by the Balls brothers, John and George.

The town is located by a waterfall on Twenty Mile Creek. On the day I visited there was very little water flow.

Ball’s Falls has been lovingly maintained to its early mid 19th century industrial hamlet atmosphere featuring the original Ball family home, an operating flour mill, a lime kiln, a church, black smith shop, carriage shed, and more.

Some botany:

Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum)
Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata)
Pokeweed (Phytolacca americana)
Holly (Ilex)
Barnyard Grass (Echinochloa crusgalli)
Silver Dollar Plant (Lunaria)
Teasel (Dipsacus fullonum)

Ball’s Falls is located in Niagara wine country.

NATURE POETRY

Oh, the summer night
Has a smile of light,
And she sits on a sapphire throne.     – Barry Cornwall (1787–1874)
